Two years after graduation from college, I challenged myself to take a premodern Japanese course taught in English.
 When I was taking notes on the text book, I found the horizontal lines of English were somehow conflicting with the vertical lines of Japanese. The pillow book is a proposal of an alternative coexistence of the two writing systems.
